The Coronado Elementary School is putting out the call for parents to run for an officer position on next year’s Executive Board. If you are interested in becoming a committee chair, the chair positions below are open for the 2020-2021year. The board appoints these positions. If you are only able to help out with specific events, please indicate on the form in the additional notes section.


There are jobs that take no more than a couple hours a month, some are that are seasonal, and a few that require a routine commitment.


Nominations will be accepted via the online form From April 13, 2020 until April 17, 2020 at 2pm. At that time the nominations will close.

Beginning at 9am on Monday, April 20, the current members of PTO will have a chance to vote for the upcoming board via an online application. Online voting is limited to one vote per person and two per student household. Teachers and administration are permitted to vote online. The committee responsible for the voting process will include teachers, Coronado staff and those on the current PTO board not running for an executive position.

Executive Positions: As per the bylaws anyone wanting to run for an executive position must have volunteered for the PTO at least twice in the previous school calendar year that they are running. For 2020-2021, it would b 2019-2020.


a. President. The president shall preside over meetings of the organization and executive board, serve as the primary contact for the principal, represent the organization at meetings outside the organization, serve as an ex officio member of all committees except the nominating committee, and coordinate the work of the officers so that the purpose of the organization served. (Effort: year-round, on-going)

b. Vice President. The vice president shall assist the president and carry out the president’s duties in his or her absence or inability to serve. The vice president shall also oversee the committees of this organization. (Effort: year-round, time varies depending upon roles)

c. Secretary. The secretary shall keep the records of the organization, take and record minutes, prepare the agenda, handle correspondence, and send notices of meetings to the membership. The secretary also keeps a copy of the minutes book, bylaws, standing rules, and any other necessary supplies, and brings them to meetings. In charge of internet communications (examples but not limited to Facebook, direct emails, website)]  (Effort: 3-4 hours per month, includes attending meeting and typing up minutes)

d. Treasurer. The treasurer shall receive all funds of the organization, keep an accurate record of receipts and expenditures, and pay out funds in accordance with the approval of the executive board. He or she will present a financial statement at every meeting and at other times of the year when requested by the executive board, and make a full report at the end of the year. (Effort: Can be up to 4-5 hours per week)



Current Chair Positions on the Executive Board - please note, these positions are created by the Executive Board throughout the year based on the PTO’s needs. The chair positions are filled by the Executive Board - not by election - and are not listed in the bylaws.


Fundraising Chair - Responsible for all MAJOR fundraising campaigns sponsored by PTO.  Coordinate and organize two Box Top collections for the year.  The Chair will make contact with business organizations during the summer break to help facilitate funding raising efforts for the start of the new school year. (Effort: 3-4 hours a month, average)


Volunteer Chair – Coordinate volunteers for PTO events and school activities.  Contact person for all committee chairs throughout the year  (Effort: on-going, year round; time peaks with a few big events. Average: 3 hours per month; could range from 0 to 8 hours per month during major events.)


Hospitality Chair  -  Coordinate any hospitality activities, including welcome program and documentation for new families and kindergarten families. Organizing all community events and Teacher Appreciation Week, conference night dinners, Donuts for Dads, Muffins Moms, etc. (Effort: year-round, 4-5 hours a month, average)


Mandarin Chair  -  Coordinator for all Mandarin communications and related events on and off school campus (Effort: year-round, 2-3 hours a month, average)


Communications Chair  -  Works closely with the President and the Chair of all special events on and off campus to effectively communicate details of events via email, social media and flyers.  (Effort: year-round, 4-5 hours a month, average)


Teacher Liaison K-3 & 4-6 - Establish and develop communication and positive relationships between teachers and PTO.  Must attend Board and General Meetings and communicate information to teachers.  (Effort: on-going, year round.  3-4 hours a month)


T-Shirt/Spirit Wear Chair - Coordinate the selection, design, ordering, inventory, and sales of school T-shirts and any related products.  (Effort varies. Peak sales in August/September.  New design in late Spring/Summer).
